Endodontics is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the study and treatment of the dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of the teeth. Dentists specializing in endodontics are known as endodontists. The primary procedure associated with endodontics is a root canal treatment, where the infected or damaged pulp inside a tooth is removed, the interior is cleaned, disinfected, and then sealed to prevent further infection.

Endodontists also address issues related to dental trauma, cracked teeth, and perform surgeries such as apicoectomies.
